Carnival of Masks presents Indiana based prop maker, Loreal Harris, as part of our Beyond the Carnival: Interviews with Costume Folks Around the World series.

CoM: Loreal, tell us about what you do.

LH: When I'm not working with children, I love to make props from my favorite animes and cartoons to sell on my Etsy shop, Lore’s Creation Workshop. I sell props, jewelry, dolls, and occasionally costumes.

CoM: What inspires you?

LH: Childhood wishes, my favorite shows, fantasy, and life experiences. I always liked to feel like one of my favorite characters. Dressing up like them not only fulfills a few childhood wishes, but I love to incorporate their aesthetic in my fashion and jewelry at times. Plus, I always was the kind to play with my imagination through my favorite characters.

CoM: How did your life in costumes begin?

LH: It began since I started making wands. The Royal Magic Wand from Star vs. The Forces of Evil was the first wand I ever made. I practiced making props ever since. There was trial and error, but I have improved since then.

CoM: Do you attend costumed events?

LH: I never miss the conventions that occur at my local library, especially when they do the costume contests.

CoM: What's your favorite thing about costumes?

LH: My favorite thing about costumes is being able to dress like my favorite characters, feeling beautiful, and just using my imagination.
