CoM: CIAO! TODAY WE’RE INTERVIEWING CARNEVALE COSTUME DESIGNER, JOHN HUBER.

CoM: JOHN, HOW DID YOU FIRST LEARN ABOUT CARNEVALE IN VENICE, ITALY?

JH: Visited a friend in Germany and before I could drop my bags she said "Don't unpack, we're going to Venice." I asked, “What's in Venice"?” And she said, "Carnival. And you have to wear a costume.” And that was where it all began…

CoM: WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT CARNEVALE?

JH: I spent 30 years in the military. I especially loved military balls because it was a chance to dress up and feel special. Carnival is like that. Putting on a costume and having tourist ask to have their picture taken with me makes me feel special, while making them feel special at the same time.

CoM: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE CARNEVALE TO SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER BEEN?

JH: I tell them it's like Las Vegas showgirls on steroids.

CoM: TELL US ABOUT YOUR CARNEVALE COSTUME MAKING.

JH: I create all my masks and accessories: hats, swords, canes, staffs, etc. I design my costumes and what I'm not capable of sewing together myself, I send to a seamstress and she finishes them for me.
