CIAO! TODAY CARNIVAL OF MASKS IS INTERVIEWING CARNEVALE COSTUME DESIGNER AND HISTORIC DANCER, MITA MESCHIARI.
Mita and her husband in Mita’s designs.
CoM: When did you first hear about Venice, Italy’s Carnevale?
MM: I've been attending Carnevale in Venice for over 10 years.
CoM: What do you love most about it?
MM: For me, it's the most beautiful and fascinating city in the world.
CoM: How did you get into costume design?
MM: I initially started going to the Venice Carnival wearing costumes I made for myself and my husband.
CoM: Where did the dancing come in?
MM: Since I'm a historical dance teacher, I proposed our initiatives and we were accepted. Our first Baroque-era show was so well received that we are now part of the group of artists who work for the carnival.
CoM: What is your dance company called?
MM: My group is called Compagnia del Saltarello. We study noble choreographies from 1400 to 1700 inclusive.
